I guess I'm supposed to write a breakup song And throw it on the pile with all the other ones I don't think it would help explain the year I've had So I'll spare your ears from having to hear another one I guess I'm due to write a heartbreak ballad So I'll purposely keep the tempo up a bit Maybe that will mask the sadness I feel every other day And just stop me when you think you've had enough of it I'm trying Not to contrive it I'm aching At least I'm not faking it I sat down to write about you moving out But the imagery just felt stolen from other songs I couldn't fit a few years into just a few verses To encapsulate all that, it just felt wrong I'm trying Not to contrive it I'm aching At least I'm not faking it

Bricks 03:55
That old factory down the street Burned to the ground, the other day Now it's just a pile of bricks Today they're sifting through the rubble Looking for, I don't know what There's nothing left to fix The golden age of industry Swept right through this town Leaving empty shells of buildings Until the buildings all burned down And what else will remain Except the stories a few will tell Of the days inside those walls before they fell In the smoldering remains Of a building once esteemed There can't be much of a trace Of the men who toiled their lives away For a pittance of a wage To only just save face The golden age of industry Swept right through this town Leaving empty shells of buildings Until the buildings all burned down And what else will remain Except the stories a few will tell Of the days inside those walls before they fell That old factory down the street Burned to the ground, the other day Now it's just a pile of bricks

With You 03:40
When I'm with you Even the same old things we do They still feel weirdly new I love the simple things that make you you They still feel weirdly new The simple, little things we do When I'm with you With you by my side I don't know how, but everything thing's just fine Though my brain is fried And half our country's lost its fucking mind And I feel like my brain is fried But I know it'll all still be just fine With you by my side And I'm happy In between trips across the sea I love just being you and me Camped out all night in front of the TV I love just being you and me And between trips over the sea I'm happy

You don't wanna get to know me I'll only drag you down I'm inept at relationships Or so I have found And I may seem like a nice guy Don't you let that fool you Somehow my twisted mind Always gets the right and wrong things confused You don't want me to write you a song I'll only break your heart The sappy verses are too over-the-top They'll tear you or somebody else apart And if I seem like a nice guy Just do yourself a favor Before you say a single word to me Talk to somebody else who could be your lifesaver I'm only looking out for your own good I hope that you can see I may not know what is best for you But you don't wanna be tangled up with me And I may seem like a nice guy I hope that you'll know better I'm a hopeless, hapless lover Master of mistakes, a chronic forgetter, An overexaggerated love letter Leave me before you meet me For whoever

Scrolling through my address book It’s not a book at all, just a list on my phone There are some old coworkers from the job we used to hate There are some people I honestly don’t know Some of the best friends I’ve ever had in life Have disappeared in the dust There are some ex-girlfriends whose last names have changed And who probably hate my guts I think it’s sad to have lost contact with so many Most of them I may never see again I wanna throw the biggest party of the century And invite every single one of them The list of names, it goes on and on and on I should delete quite a few Some landlines long since disconnected A Chinese place on a distant avenue And old best friends, we only talk once a year About the same as distant relatives So many others who might as well be strangers At least one is probably dead I think it’s sad to have lost contact with so many Most of them I may never see again I wanna throw the biggest party of the century And invite every single one of them I miss all of my acquaintances
